Conejo "Pops" Orchestra with Elmer Ramsey and his trumpet performs music from some of the greatest artists of the big band era: Artie Shaw, Harry James, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie, Les Brown and Duke Ellington. Featured performers are Nancy Osborne and Ned Risken, vocalists, and Dan Geeting, clarinetist. Ramsey, a CLU professor emeritus of music, began playing trumpet professionally at the age of 14 and, three years later, had his own '40s-style big band on a Washington radio station. The future of jazz is in good hands. Thursday night's " Jazz at The Kessler with Arturo Sandoval " concert will indeed be special for 20 young musicians. Dallas-based jazz musician and trumpet player Freddie Jones wants to insure that the next generation of jazz players get all the nourishing experience they can right now. So Jones, an instructor and mentor who has quietly worked behind the scenes to turn on at-risk kids to the world of jazz music, including purchasing trumpets for them to play, will accompany these young musicians Thursday night to the Kessler Theater for Sandoval's show. But it gets better: Sandoval, a native of Cuba who has recorded more than 40 albums during his 35-year career, has agreed to speak to the kids. Source: Mario Tarradell

At Baylor University on October 9, Moore coached several brass chamber ensembles, performed a well-received recital and gave a masterclass. Dr. Logan Place, Instructor of Trumpet at Southeastern Louisiana University, completed a two-day residency October 9 th  and 10 th , 2012 at Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado. Place presented a master class, taught lessons, advised students on all aspects of trumpet playing, and coached sectionals.   He presented a recital on October 10 th  in Roshong Recital Hall where he performed Giuseppe Torelli’s Sonata in D (G.1), Joseph Turrin’s  Four Miniatures , Tim Jansa’s duet  Wings: A Contemplative Fanfare  with Marc Reed, and Alexandra Pakhmutova’s Concerto for Trumpet. FLC collaborative pianists Linda Mack Bervin and Lisa Campi Walters accompanied Place. From ITG News
