Henry Allen, American jazz musician who was one of the major trumpeters of the swing era. He also sang and led small bands. Allen offered rhythmically and melodically stimulating solos with angular intervals and asymmetric phrases, often with unique intimacy in such songs as ‘Louisiana Swing’ and ‘Ride, Red, Ride.’
